Bush apology to auto workers

WASHINGTON Vice President George Bush arrived home Saturday from a goodwill trip through Europe that ended with an apology for an off-the-cuff remark that offended U.S. auto workers and threatened his presidential campaign.

"I thought I was trying to be funny, and obviously it didn't work very well," Bush said at his final stop in Brussels, Belgium. "And if I offended anybody, I'm very, very sorry, because I didn't intend to."
