Churchill Marsh, one of the last remnants of natural wetlands in Illinois, stood right in the path of the North-South Tollway in Du Page County.

But instead of paving over the marsh, road builders loaded up 355 truckloads of muck and hauled it five miles north to a protected site near Wood Dale.
