Catholics here anoint sick, AIDS patients // 45 are blessed in `healing' rites
|
Some 45 men, women and children received blessings at a solemn,
sweltering Roman Catholic service of anointing the sick Saturday
night in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 690 W. Belmont.
AIDS patients were specifically invited for the blessing and
apparently many attended. But other elderly and seriously sick
parishioners also were present for the laying on of hands and
publicly received the sacrament - formerly called extreme unction.
