Zoning reform ordered // Will limit aldermen, Davis says

Reforms designed to curb the absolute control that Chicago aldermen have over rezoning in their wards were ordered Sunday by the new chairman of the City Council Zoning Committee.

Responding to disclosures in the Chicago Sun-Times, Ald. Danny K. Davis (29th) said aldermen no longer will have the power to keep zoning requests from reaching the committee.

Davis, named committee chairman in May, said he also will broaden public notice of zoning requests to include community organizations.
