Cosenza homer lifts La Grange
|
Frank Cosenza's dramatic three-run homer with two out in the
seventh inning lifted La Grange past Stevenson 8-6 Monday for the
Class AA sectional championship at Niles West.
Cosenza, a senior who is the Lions' No. 3 pitcher and a
part-time player, was slotted as the designated hitter on a hunch by
coach Terry Sullivan. He singled in the second and homered in the
sixth to tie at 3.
After Stevenson scored three in the seventh to lead 6-3 and
brought in ace pitcher Mark Ledinsky to nail down the victory, La
Grange (28-9) rallied for five runs on RBI singles by Pat Maloney
(3-for-4, 2 RBI) ...
