Firings by CBS News aimed at saving $30 million a year

NEW YORK CBS News yesterday began firing workers, including some
20 on-air reporters, as part of a program to eliminate 200 jobs and
save $30 million a year.
The job cuts, which staff members say have created the worst
morale they ever have seen at the network news division, are the
fourth in just two years at CBS, which has suffered a drop in
operating income because of weak advertising demand. The news
division has a $300 million annual budget.
At the Chicago bureau of CBS News, an unspecified number of
people were cut, including reporter Karen Boros.
