Sid Caesar, whose name is synonymous with the era of live television, often called the medium's golden age, doesn't watch much comedy on television.

"I don't like to watch sitcoms because I don't enjoy them," he said, "because I stop to analyze them. I don't want to, but I automatically do it."

Instead, he said: "I watch the History Channel, Discovery, TLC-- you learn things while you're being entertained."
