Richard Dennis: the man behind all that money

As a sophomore in high school, he spent his $300 life savings on 10 shares in a phonograph company. The stock dropped, and Richard Dennis lost most of his investment.

Don't cry for Dennis. The commodity markets have been kinder.

Starting with what he now calls a "$100 trading war chest" at the MidAmerica Commodity Exchange in 1970, Dennis has built a fortune estimated at around $200 million and growing.

Don't pigeonhole Dennis. Politically, commodity traders are somewhere to the right of Pat Buchanan. Dennis backs liberals, crowds of them, with some of the deepest pockets in politics.
