Argentine ex-general held on torture, murder charges

SAN FRANCISCO A former Argentine general accused in the torture and murder of thousands of leftists in the 1970s was denied bail by a U.S. magistrate yesterday while his country prepares an extradition case against him.

Guillermo Suarez Mason, Argentina's most-wanted military fugitive, was arrested Saturday by U.S. marshals at a two-story home he and his wife, Angelica, had rented in Foster City near San Francisco.
