11 water systems in Indiana cited for EPA violations

Eleven Indiana drinking-water systems have been cited by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for failing to meet federal regulations.

Seven of the facilities failed to sample drinking-water supplies for coliform bacteria. Four of those seven failed to do so on more than one occasion, the EPA said.

Four facilities were cited for exceeding coliform bacteria standards and two of those exceeded the standard more than once. Coliform bacteria come from human and animal wastes and sometimes are found in improperly protected drinking water.
