ST. LOUIS The saying goes: "The Bible is The Sporting News of religion."

"Hey, I've never heard that one," laughed C.C. Johnson Spink, heir to the publishing family that founded The Sporting News. "But I'll start telling it now."

As if Spink needs another Sporting News tale. For all his 69 years, life never has been anything but the century-old publication, the illustrious "Bible of baseball" and the only sports newspaper of its kind.
