The Art Institute to display Moholy-Nagy photographs
|
Some 120 vintage photographs by Laszlo Moholy-Nagy, who was at the
forefront of the German avant-garde, go on display at the Art
Institute today in an exhibition called Moholy-Nagy: Photography and
Film in Weimar Germany. Moholy-Nagy is perhaps best known for his
geometric compositions and his unusual use of perspective.
Born in Hungary in 1895, Moholy-Nagy was a self-taught painter,
designer and typographer. He eventually came to believe art should
reflect the workings of society rather than the imagination and
method of the artist. He then chose photography as his primary
