Witch doctors come to aid of poisoned scientist

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil (UPI) Two Amazon witch doctors, at the request of President Jose Sarney, worked to save the life of a noted ecologist who said venom from a poisonous tree frog has been slowly killing him for the last 11 years. Witch doctor Raoni Metukre - who smoked hallucinogenic cigars during the cleansing ritual - presided over Thursday's morning and afternoon sessions. The medicine man was accompanied by representatives of the government's Indian Affairs Office.
