Return of Fine Food Provides Solace for Tornado-Torn Town; Casey Jones's Reopening Marks La Plata's Renewal

In some ways, this was merely a lunch.

Donn Marshall just happened to be in La Plata on Tuesday -- he normally works in Crystal City -- when he noticed The Crossing at Casey Jones restaurant was opening its dining room for the first time since the April 28 tornado. The thought of a marinated lamb sandwich on sourdough, portobello fries and cream of crab soup drew him in.

"I had [the crab soup] the first time I came here for lunch," he said. "I was blown away. It was love at first bite."

But the savory fare wasn't the only thing on Marshall's mind as he arrived at Casey Jones right at 11 a.m., ...
