Genichi Kawakami, 90, the man who shunned personal publicity while
making Japan's Yamaha a household name around the world through a mix
of musical instruments and motorbikes, died of unreported causes May
25 in his native Hamamatsu, Japan.
In 1950, Mr. Kawakami took over his father's musical instrument
company, which had been established in the 19th century, and
developed it into the world's largest maker of pianos. His motorbike
manufacturing business was spun off as Yamaha Motor Co....
