Donald C. Spencer, 89, a prize-winning American mathematician who
was a Princeton University professor emeritus, died Dec. 23 in
Durango, Colo. The cause of death was not reported.
He collaborated with colleague Kunihiko Kodaira in the development
of the modern theory of deformation of complex structures. The theory
has become important in fields ranging from geometry to mathematical
physics.
