Attorneys for Atlantic Coast Airlines Holdings Inc. yesterday asked a federal judge to temporarily block an attempt by Mesa Air Group Inc. to take over the Dulles-based carrier.

Atlantic Coast attorneys argued before U.S. District Judge Rosemary M. Collyer that Mesa and United Airlines used anti- competitive tactics to try to stop Atlantic Coast from becoming a low- cost airline. Atlantic Coast is seeking a preliminary injunction to give it time to go to court and try to prove its assertion that Mesa and United conspired to act anti-competitively.
