WorldCom Hires Firm for Internal Probe

WorldCom Inc. announced yesterday that it hired an outside law
firm to investigate allegations that it improperly rerouted millions
of long-distance telephone calls in an effort to avoid paying
billions of dollars in fees owed to other companies.
Los Angeles-based Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP was brought in by
WorldCom to handle the internal inquiry, the company said. Partners
Douglas R. Cox, a former Justice Department lawyer, and F. Joseph
Warin, a former federal prosecutor, would head the inquiry, WorldCom
said.
The U.S. attorney's office in Manhattan has been looking into the
