Plans for tasty tomatoes don't have to end with cold weather

It had to happen: Tomato plants, still budding and flourishing in our lingering warm spell, were KO'd by one cruel blow from a winter storm earlier this month.

And now, home gardeners who yanked their plants out of the ground before the storm hit are left with a crop of green tomatoes and wondering how to use them or otherwise store and ripen them.

If storing and ripening is your goal, you can try this trick I put to use years ago.
