On Colorado Springs' west side, a traditional neighborhood development is about to take shape on a home site that's anything but traditional.

For decades, the 210-acre Gold Hill Mesa property -- an ugly, former gold and silver milling operation noted for its deeply rutted hillside -- has sat idle southeast of U.S. Highway 24 and 21st Street.
