"One Source," the five-artist encaustic exhibit that opened last week at Commonwheel Artist's Co-op, will be a trip down memory lane.

Not our memories, says artist and exhibit organizer Carol Ettenger, but cultural memory.

"Homer talks of decorated ships," Ettenger says. "That was around 800 B.C. Before tar, ships were sealed with beeswax, and it's a short step to coloring it."
