Air security absurdity/ Missing the point at TSA

An editorial in last Friday's USA Today about air security
procedures was accompanied by some startling and scary statistics on
airport confiscations of dangerous items. If taken at face value,
they seemed to show how much safer the flying public is since the new
federal Transportation Security Administration began manning security
check points at hundreds of airports around the nation.
According to TSA, between February and November of last year,
airport screeners confiscated more than 1 million knives, 58,000
"incendiary devices," nearly 36,000 box cutters, 12,000 "clubs" and
