Four firms bid to run north London railway

FOUR transport companies have been lined up to bid for the new North London Railway due to replace the Silverlink Metro network next year.

The shortlist was unveiled by Transport for London, which for the first time is running the auction for the franchise instead of the Government. The four are: .Govia, a joint venture between the Go- Ahead transport group and the French company Keolis.

. MTR Laing, a venture between Hong Kong metro operator MTR and Laing Rail, which runs the Chiltern commuter service.

.Nedrail, a subsidiary of the Dutch national rail company.
