WARD VEAZEY has spent much of his career convincing people they're
seeing things that aren't really there. It's one of the occupational
hazards of being an expert in trompe l'oeil painting. It's also the
reason the Rockville native, who now lives in London, was a perfect
choice to paint scenic backdrops for the Folger Theatre's "The
Clandestine Marriage," a play that itself depends on no small amount
of trickery.
"The real art is knowing how to give enough information with
certain details while leaving blanks," Veazey says. "It was
