AN English churchyard holds the key to an investigation which could change the face of American history.

The project centres on explorer Bartholomew Gosnold, whose expeditions to the New World 400 years ago were reduced to little more than a footnote after the voyage of the Pilgrim Fathers 13 years later.

Archaeologists believe their search in the grounds of a Suffolk church could put his name on the map as the founding father of modern America.
