ARCHAEOLOGISTS yesterday unearthed the remains of a World War II fighter plane which saved Buckingham Palace from almost certain destruction during the Battle of Britain. The Hurricane had been buried deep in the ground after it crashed following an astonishing act of bravery by pilot Ray Holmes. He spotted a German Dornier bomber heading for the Palace and rammed his plane into the enemy aircraft to bring it down. He then bailed out.
