LIVERPOOL manager Gerard Houllier hailed Markus Babbel as his '
miracle man' as the German defender prepared to make his comeback
tonight after a 14-month battle with a debilitating, career-
threatening illness.
Babbel faces Southampton in the Worthington Cup third-round tie at
Anfield, his first start in a competitive match since August 27 last
year.
The 30-year-old has been laid low with Guillain-Barre Syndrome, a
disorder of the nervous system which causes weakness in the arms and
legs and, in extreme cases, can leave a sufferer virtually paralysed.
