CLARENCE "Gatemouth" Brown's only nationwide hit, way back in
1949, was titled "My Time Is Expensive."
These days, his time is precious: Earlier this year, after a
routine exam, Brown was diagnosed with lung cancer. At age 80, and
already burdened with a heart condition, Brown was later deemed by
doctors to not be a candidate for surgery.
By then, he'd already decided to forgo any treatment and simply
continue touring as long as his health allows.
