No longer an eyesore, Cumbernauld is now a national treasure - just ask the United Nations

TO many it is a characterless 1960s New Town which time, and a
busy dual carriageway, have now passed by.
But to the trained eyes of an international heritage organisation,
Cumbernauld is actually one of Scotland's modern treasures, ranking
alongside Charles Rennie Mackintosh's finest architecture.
Its residents, the UN-backed organisation insists, should be proud
of their prestige surroundings, which happen to be a perfect example
of mid 20th century urban landscape restructuring, as captured for
posterity in Bill Forsyth's 1980 film Gregory's Girl.
