Mountains of the Roanoke Valley

Mountains wrap around our valley like a mother's arms. They dominate our skylines, tower over downtown buildings and afford stunning views. They are the Blue Ridge Mountains, part of the Appalachian range that extends from Alabama to Canada. We climb them, live on them, drive along their ridgelines, erect giant neon stars atop them and stand dwarfed beneath their blue-green grandeur. The tallest mountains rise nearly 3,000 feet above Roanoke's elevation at about 900 feet.
