Hopes rise of 11th-hour move to save Outer Hebrides missile range

HOPES were raised last night that 125 jobs at a rocket range in
the Outer Hebrides will be reprieved at the 11th hour by Scottish
Secretary Jim Murphy.
Mr Murphy is travelling to Benbecula today to make an
announcement about the future of the range.
It had been widely trailed at the weekend that the job losses
would be confirmed at the Hebrides Range. Massive redundancies would
devastate the already struggling Uist economy, with one in five
families having employment links to the range.
Now, however, there are hopes that there has been a U-turn over
the GBP 50 million defence cuts. ...
