Beloved teacher Carol Jeanne Schowalter died while under hospice care for cancer at her home in Redlands August 24, 2009.

At her bedside was her husband, Mel Whitcopf, with whom she had marked their 23rd anniversary a few days before her passing.

Carol was born in 1941 in Redlands, California, to Josephine and Wilbur "Pop" Schowalter, a prominent choral director who began the vocal music program at Redlands High School.
