JASPER, Ind. - In 1847, more than 100 residents of Pfaffenweiler,
Germany, left their hometown to start life anew in Jasper.
The parting song they sang to the approximately 300 family
members and friends staying behind had one lingering and sorrowful
message: Oh dear little friends, don't cry so much, we see each
other today and then never again.
In 1985, more than 138 years later, tears were shed again by
descendants of the two groups, but this time in joy rather than
sadness as the long-lost relatives of Jasper and Pfaffenweiler
reunited to forge a Sister City relationship.
