Call your sons Columba after saint, says priest

THE Catholic Church in Londonderry has urged parents of newborn boys to call their sons after the city's founder and patron, St Columba.

In an unusual step St Columba's Church in the Long Tower/Bogside area has urged parents to consider the name to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the present church.

The church is founded on the site of St Columba's 6th century monastery and intends to confer special blessings on children named Colm, Columba or ColmCille this year and next.
