Gaelic speakers send a message to mobile firms

IS MATH bruidhinn.* Gaelic speakers hope that mobile phone manufacturers will soon be talking their language.

The launch next month of the first mobile specifically aimed at Welsh speakers could be followed by a Gaelic version.

The Welsh phone, a Samsung S5600 provided via the Orange network, will be available from 1 September. It will have predictive text in the dialects of both South and North Wales and include menus and a dictionary of more than 44,000 Welsh words, complete with accents. It follows the success of the first Irish language phone last year.
