World Esperanto Congress starts in Bialystok, Poland

WARSAW, July 26 (Xinhua) -- The 94th World Esperanto Congress was officially inaugurated on Sunday in Bialystok, eastern Poland, the home town of its inventor Ludwik Zamenhof.

The congress, to last till Saturday, is attended by nearly 2, 000 Esperantists from all over the world.

The congress in Bialystok marks the 150th birth anniversary of Ludwik Zamenhof, who was born on Dec. 15, 1859 and was an ophthalmologist and philologist. He invented Esperanto as a language designed for international communication.…
