It's Independence Day and everywhere people are prepping for a day of fireworks, sparklers and family picnics. But patriotic puppy parades and pancake breakfasts aside, there's no doubt about the meaning of this day. Asked to pen patriotic poems in honor of Fourth of July, readers sent in hundreds of evocative, often emotional -- and occasionally rather witty -- haikus. They spoke of flags, fireworks and apple pie, spilled condiments and Uncle Sam Jell-O.
