Clive Granger, at 74; shared Nobel Prize for economics

SAN DIEGO - Clive W.J. Granger, who shared the 2003 Nobel Prize
for economics for his iconoclastic view about how his profession
uses and misuses figures to predict the future, has died. He was 74.
Dr. Granger, a professor emeritus in the economics department at
the University of California at San Diego, died May 27 at Scripps
Memorial Hospital after a short illness.
He and University of California colleague Robert Engle were
recognized by the Nobel Committee for their work that showed many of
the standard formulas used by economists were outmoded.
