Navy veteran played key role in arts world
|
Jim Winokur was a respected industrialist, art collector and art
activist also admired for his service to his country.
As a member of the Navy Submarine Service, Mr. Winokur saw action
in the Pacific during World War II. He later was instrumental in
bringing the USS Requin to the Carnegie Science Center in the North
Side, where the submarine is a popular interactive display.
James Winokur of Oakmont, former CEO and owner of the ATP (Air
Tool Products) on Smallman Street in the Strip District, died on
Saturday, May 16, 2009, in Golden Living Center In Oakmont. He was
86.
