Bay Area foreclosure filings surge
|
In the first three months of the year in the Bay Area and in
California, notices of defaults nearly doubled from the previous
quarter following a temporary lull in foreclosure filings linked to
passage of a state law. At the same time, rising unemployment
continues to push up foreclosure activity.
Statewide, lenders filed 135,431 notices of default, the first
step in the foreclosure process that happens when borrowers fall
behind on monthly mortgage payments, said the quarterly report
released Wednesday by MDA DataQuick.
