Nearly a third of foreign criminals targeted by immigration
officials in the wake of the deportation scandal will never be re-
moved from this country, it emerged last night. Since the blunder was
exposed four weeks ago, 98 of the most serious offenders have still
not yet been traced.
Tony Blair is facing a fresh crisis over the bungled release of
more than 1,000 prisoners into the community, as legal experts warn
that many cannot be sent home because they have lived in Britain too
long or have genuine claims to stay.
