Real Lives: Robert Blair and Jeanie Blair: VE Day marked the beginning of a lasting love for diamond couple

Whitburn couple Robert and Jeanie Blair, whose first date was on
VE Day, have celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary.
Robert Blair was born on January 21, 1927, and attended Whitburn
Primary School and Lindsay High School in Bathgate.
On his 14th birthday, he left school and took a job at the
Whitrigg Colliery, known as "The Lady Pit", where he continued to
work for the best part of the next 20 years.
He met his Stoneyburn-born wife Jeanie Bowman, born November 4,
1923, then a Rolls-Royce factory worker, at the Fauldhouse Welfare
Social Club in 1945.
