BETTER DAYS ARE AHEAD ON THE ROANOKE RIVER

We are the queens of the Roanoke River -- that would be me and my kayaking buddy, Joy.

I got my kayak 11 years ago and soon discovered that going down a river is better than floating on a lake -- the water does the work for you. Joy has had her boat for a year or so and is always ready to go.

Mostly, we paddle the James or the Cowpasture rivers. The James is deep and broad, with thrilling rapids, relaxing swimming holes and a wealth of wildlife.
