Quantz is music to the ears of flautists

Why would distinguished flautist Colin Fleming call his ensemble of up and coming players Quantz?

Well, Johann Joachim Quantz (1697-1773) was a respected German flautist-composer who, in 1741, was appointed teacher to Frederick the Great for whom in their time together he wrote more than 500 pieces.

Quantz Ensemble, led by Fleming (right) of Ulster Orchestra fame, will be playing in the Salmond Hall at Loanends Presbyterian Church on the Seven Mile Straight on Saturday, February 21, at 8pm, in aid of a Fields of Life project in Uganda.
