Lapse into 'airspeak' is more than momentary ; I concur with the points made in Martin Hesp's January 17 article. Nothing irritates me more than "airspeak" on airlines in the USA, which we use as our daughter lives in South Carolina. The in word is "momentarily" - constantly used without any sensible application.

I concur with the points made in Martin Hesp's January 17 article. Nothing irritates me more than "airspeak" on airlines in the USA, which we use as our daughter lives in South Carolina. The in word is "momentarily" - constantly used without any sensible application.

Just before take-off for a flight, whether it be scheduled to last one hour or more than eight hours, cabin staff, irrespective of which airline, will announce over the public address system that the aircraft will take off "momentarily".

I have to suppress the urge to shout that I do not want the aircraft to take off ...
