Dinner time is a job well dunlin ; Coorlee-coorlee", rings the calls of curlew and this year there are hundreds of them on the river. I have photographed them nesting not far from Pinkery (Pinkworthy) Pond on Exmoor, where white fluffy cotton grass adds to the wild moorland scene, a lovely place where one often sees Exmoor ponies, red deer and a fox or two.

With the curlew today are dunlin so we have good views of both
our largest, and our smallest, common waders. The sand and mud here
is a vast larder and we can watch the feeding methods of the two
species which varies due to their beak sizes. Down deep probes the
