The struggles of two entrepreneurs in the funeral home industry
have prompted the Columbia City Council to rethink city ordinances
that outline where mortuaries can find a home.
John Bach was looking last fall to expand the Carr-Yeager Funeral
Home LLC with a Columbia location at Garth and Texas avenues. He hit
a snag after learning city ordinances only allowed such businesses
in commercially zoned areas.
Many funeral homes occupy former church buildings, which are
permitted in residential zoning areas.
Neighbors of the proposed Carr-Yeager site bristled at the idea
