Thordarson positive about tasks ahead

Gudjon Thordarson believes one of his first tasks will be to tighten up Crewe's appalling defensive record.

Faced with a bitter relegation battle, the 53-year-old has been encouraged by recent results under caretaker boss Dario Gradi. Those included a battling goalless draw at Millwall, where the former Stoke boss takes charge for the first time tomorrow when FA Cup progress is at stake, rather than League One points.

"We need to dig in," declared Thordarson. "The team have been conceding too many goals.

"A minus 21 goals difference shows that and we are eight points away from the safety zone. ...
