Mt. Wilson Observatory raising money for facelift

PASADENA - As Mount Wilson Observatory celebrates a century of
cosmic exploration that rewrote the history of the universe,
astronomer Hal McAlister is focused on a more earthbound mission.
McAlister, the observatory's director since 2003, wants to
restore its buildings and infrastructure, improve visitor facilities
and make it the tourist magnet it was 100 years ago.
"I fell in love with Mount Wilson. It's a wonderful, magical
place and a world landmark, scientifically," said McAlister, a
