Pennsylvania Dutch is a lively language enhanced rather than diminished by its inclusion of English words, a prominent Pennsylvania German scholar told a Lancaster audience last week.

Mark L. Louden, professor of German at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, has published extensively on various aspects of the language and defends its evolution with a passion.

He presented the annual Professor J. William Frey Memorial Pennsylvania German Lecture on Wednesday at Franklin & Marshall College.
